Reiki is an energy healing practice from Japan meaning “Universal life energy”. The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health describes Reiki as a complementary health approach in which practitioners place their hands lightly on or just above a person, with the goal of facilitating the person’s own healing response, and a return to a natural state of wholeness.
Recipients of Reiki report feelings of relaxation, well-being, reduction of pain and stress.
This practice has no religious affiliation, however, feeling a sense of your own inner spiritual connection is not uncommon.
REIKI level 1
Reiki is an ancient healing therapy which is believed to have originated in Tibet, later surfacing in Japan and introduced to the Western World in the mid 1970’s. Since then its use has spread worldwide and now millions of people use Reiki to help themselves and others stimulate the natural healing processes.

REIKI LEVEL 2
While first degree Reiki is the beginning of an exciting and profound journey filled with self discovery, personal change, love, growth, new experiences and an immeasurable sense of bonding with a higher power, the second degree is the next giant step towards understanding and becoming fully attuned to Reiki. Everyone who wants to study and master the second degree must first have already completed the first degree either in a workshop or a home study course.

Most second degree students no longer fear or harbor skepticism towards Reiki. They are normally enthusiastic and excited about the prospect of enhancing their skills and understanding. It is often recommended that the student/practitioner takes time after the first degree workshop to assimilate; and incorporate the teachings of Dr. Usui into their practice and daily life, before attending a second degree workshop. Like the first degree, most people feel they are drawn at the appropriate time to the next level of Reiki. Often an event or strong feeling can direct you towards this new path. The main criteria for attending the workshop is that you personally feel ready to go forward with Reiki.

REIKI LEVEL 3
In a nutshell; the third degree consists of learning the master symbol, receiving the attunements, and learning and mastering the attunement processes so you can then pass on and teach the gift of Reiki to others.
Becoming a Reiki Master is not the end of the journey; it is the beginning of new journey of your own personal and spiritual development. A Reiki Master is not suddenly a better or wiser or more enlightened person than anyone else; it simply means that as a Reiki Master/Teacher you are now able to pass on the gift of the universal life force to others. A person seeking to become a Reiki Master is already a kind, considerate and spiritually developed individual who is seeking to not only enhance their own life, but also the lives of others.
The third degree is a natural progression for those who want to teach Reiki, yet it is not limited to just those on the teaching path.The bottom line is the more Level III Reiki Masters the world has; the more people will be introduced to and drawn to Reiki. The world as a global community needs to learn to live together and come to realise that we are all connected and should live in peace and harmony. Reiki can help us heal the rifts and issues that drive us apart. The more people in tune with Reiki, the better our world will undoubtedly become.

Jarquez Smith is a level 3, Reiki-Master Teacher.
"My first experience with Reiki or understanding what Reiki was, wasn't through a session but through a dream. Seeing my hands glow a golden hue as I stood over a sickly man, I was offering to heal him with the guiding force of the spirits. I realized I wasn't too far off after I decided to do research into this healing method. Learning to allow myself to be an open channel for that divine essence. Becoming a vessel for healing, I practiced the art on myself a few times before embarking on my Reiki training. With Reiki, I bring also to the healing some alchemical elements, using the laws of polarity and vibration to tune in to the specific vibration of the energy centers and applying its opposite in order to realign the spirit and soul. Working with Reiki and the energies within the body, it becomes like child's play, seeing the correspondence of the chakras, the personalities, the body's ailments, the emotions, etc. And when understanding how these aspects relate to one another, the healing process becomes fluid.
Healing for me occurs firstly on a spiritual level, then mental, and lastly bodily. We trace the blockages of energy down to the subconscious level, and even down to the spirit. We purify the essence so that its correspondences (mind & body) become purified by proxy, and heal."
